HIV and AIDS: More than just a health crisis, HIV and AIDS affect every dimension of social and economic life, robbing children of parents, contributing to maternal and child mortality, devastating workforces and undermining economies. Our work focuses on the children left most vulnerable by the pandemic and on preventing transmission from mothers to babies.
Infectious disease: Pneumonia and diarrhea are the two biggest killers of children under 5, while malaria remains a major killer in sub-Saharan Africa. Preventing and swiftly treating these diseases is the best way to eradicate them— and we work to help achieve this.
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
– Working along side hospital staff, providing assistance and education
– Outreach to HIV/AIDS clients
– Assist in researching and searching for information about HIV/AIDS
– Educating secondary schools, churches and other community groups about HIV transmission and prevention.
WHAT THE PROGRAM ACHIEVES
This project focuses on providing culturally sensitive methods of awareness raising and education with the goal of preventing transmission of the disease within the target populations. There is a great lack of HIV/AIDS awareness among the rural indigenous community and especially among the youth in primary and secondary schools. We sensitize people about HIV/AIDS prevention with primary focus on young people. By means of IEC (information, education and communication) we try to reach as many people as we can through seminars, workshops, drama/video shows, written material and various other means. Volunteers participating in this project will visit local communities to educate them about prevention, transmission and the reality of HIV/AIDS as well as working long side hospital and health clinic staff.
Experience and qualifications are required to join HIV /AIDS Prevention Project. This is a hands on project and an understanding of HIV/aids is preferred. Participants should bring both enthusiasm and humility to their projects. Volunteers are expected to be independent and creative, bring ideas to the table, be respectful to organization leadership and work collaboratively.
PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU WISH TO WORK IN THE HEALTH PROGRAM BUT HAVE NO EXPERIENCE DEALING WITH HIV/AIDS YOU MAY STILL APPLY AS WE ARE ALWAYS IN NEED OF NURSES, STUDENT NURSES AND DOCTORS FOR OUR HEALTH CLINICS AND HOSPITALS.
