Why become a volunteer In Uganda?

Uganda, or “the pearl of Africa,” is known for its striking physical features, safe and peaceful state, and as a bird watcher’s paradise.

Unfortunately, it’s also been ranked as one of the 20 poorest countries in the world, and the majority of the population lives under the poverty line. This can be clearly seen in the lack of fundamental infrastructures such as education, healthcare, clean running water and waste management.

Our programs in some selected needy communities in Uganda would give you the opportunity to share some of your skills, experience or knowledge to help others as you soak yourself in the local cultures and explore the country.

Volunteer Requirements

Volunteers need to be 18 years or over to participate, unless volunteering with a parent or guardian. All volunteers are required to have adequate volunteer travel insurance and provide a criminal background check to AVA’s local team on arrival in Uganda. Additional requirements apply for Medical volunteers, please read the project description below.

Pre-Departure Information Manual –

All volunteers are encouraged to read through our pre-departure information manual, which is available exclusively to registered AVA volunteers. The manual is designed to build an understanding of important aspects that need to be considered before embarking on an AVA program. It helps volunteers to prepare in the right way by providing advice on what it takes to be a safe, responsible and valuable volunteer.
