Our mentoring program at it’s core is designed to show the people in Africa that there is someone put there who cares about them, assuring them that there don’t have to be alone in life’s day to day challenges and makes them feel like they matter.

The program essentially connects people to their own personal growth and development and is based on the concept “helping others help themselves”.

You will be involved in the day to day life and culture of not only the people you area helping to mentor but also their family and community. A focus of this program is to help build confidence, independence and affect social change not only for the some people but also with everything they are involved in. This is a very hands on program and is both emotionally and mentally very rewarding.

Some of our past mentors have said they were able to;

– Get total enjoyment out of helping someone who doesn’t have the means to help themselves
– Acquire complete understanding about how helping others in turn helps themselves.
– Learn how you leave your mark by being a mentor in Africa

As a mentor in Africa your given the opportunity and platform to use your knowledge and experience as a coach to contribute to positive foreign aid and social change.

The biggest reason for volunteering as a mentor in Africa is a desire to make the world a better place, and there’s no place on earth that needs a helping hand the way Africa does. You’ll experience firsthand the poverty, injustice, malnutrition, disease and destitution many African’s experience on a day to day basis.

Uganda is still considered a developing country without much access to clean water, education and adequate food. Currently millions of Ugandan’s live on just over $1. Having a coach or mentor is completely out of reach for a lot of Ugandan’s. For them the idea that ‘life is hard” is a fact for them and not a term they use when having a bad day. We want to take that mindset on a 180 roller-coster ride to have them believing that “this is just my all time low” and “ I will thrive”.

Being a mentor helps immensely to the mentees lives. You will;

– Aid in the mentees personal growth
– Give them a platform to contribute to positive community development
– Provide social support
– Foster a positive self-identity enabling the mentee to live the life they deserve

Mentorship is open to anyone who has experience in this field as this is a very important and impactful program. Various skills can be translated and used in this program, for example… Life coach, teacher, counselling and peer support. You will be given a manual that everyone uses from African Volunteer Aid to stay consistent to make the biggest difference possible.
